First, Stern leaves K Rock. CBS, obviously feeling scorn, changes their station into an all-talk format called "Free FM."
The "Free" part was intended to mean "Free to talk about what you want." This premise is bullshit because you can't say much without violating an FCC rule or violating this new politically correct system we seem to have adopted here in America (see: nappy-headed ho). Everyone knew that "Free" meant free as in price, since Stern went on to Sirius - a pay service. CBS wasn't fooling anyone, certainly not me.
Over the last couple of years, Free FM went through quite a few hosts, including legendary idiot and Van Halen front-man, David Lee Roth. The show was hyped so much and it bombed horribly (it's no surprise that you can't base a show on your one achievement in life). Diamond Dave was eventually replaced with Opie and Anthony (O&A).
As far as I was concerned, Free FM's later line-up was stellar. O&A, The Dog House with JV and Elvis, Nick Di Paolo, The Radio Chick, Ron and Fez - all good shows bringing something different to the table.
Things started going downhill about 6 weeks ago when NBC indefinitely suspend JV and Elvis for a prank phone call to a Chinese restaurant (in the wake of the Don Imus incident). Free FM played JV and Elvis "best of" for a few weeks and eventually replaced them with a hack by the name of Larry Wax.
Fast forward to today - O&A was on until 9:00 AM, when weird music and voices started playing, telling the listener to tune in at 5:00 PM. I had already anticipated that Free FM was going to change their format due to the fact that you can't have a talk show when you can't talk about anything. Guess what? They're changing their format back to K Rock - how original.
I guess the point I'm getting to is:
Congratulations NBC - you folded like the politically correct bunch of pussies you are.
Enjoy your "new" format - I won't be joining you.
